RANGE: Throughout eastern and southern U.S.,
California.
STATUS: Not a sensitive species
HABITAT: Gray fox prefers open country, chaparral, open
deciduous broadleaf forest, and rimrock country.
SPECIAL HABITAT REQUIREMENTS: Hollow logs, boulders, or burrows
in ground for denning.
BREEDING: Litter of 3-7 born in April - May.
FOOD: Omnivorous; mainly eats small mammals, but also insects,
fruits, acorns, birds, and eggs, the gray fox is the only canid
in north America that can climb trees, gray fox will leap from
limb to limb.
