Eastern Narrow-Mouth Toad
(Gastrophryne carolinensis)



DESCRIPTION: 7/8 - 1 1/4  inches. General coloration varies through shades of gray, brown, or reddish and the same frog may change from one color to another. There is a broad middorsal area flanked by broad light stripes and is frequently obscured by patches, spots, and mottlings of dark or light pigment

RANGE: South Maryland to the Florida Keys and as far west as Missouri and East Texas.

HABITAT: Wide variety of habitats consisting of  - shelter and moister. Margins of bodies of water are good places to look. Found by over turning boards, logs, or other shelters, ranking through vegetable debris, etc.

Food: Consist largely on insects, such as small beetles, termites, and ants.
