DESCRIPTION:    5 - 9 1/4 inches, males; 6 1/2 - 18 inches, female

STATUS:

RANGE:     

HABITAT:  Mainly rivers, but can be found in lakes, small streams and farm ponds. Prefers shallow water with a sand or mud bottom.

SPECIAL HABITAT: 

FOOD:  Crayfish, frogs, and small fish
