Coyote (Canis latrans)


RANGE: Most North and Central America.

STATUS: Common and well represented across range.

HABITAT: The coyote is extremely adaptable, and inhabits almost every habitat including, grasslands, prairies, open woodlands, sagebrush steppe, dense forest or boulder-strewn areas. Coyote has even survived in the city.

SPECIAL HABITAT REQUIREMENTS: Typically dens within 6 miles of water.

BREEDING: Litter of 5-10, born April - May.

FOOD: Primarily small rodents and rabbits, young pronghorn antelope, deer, fawns, domestic animals carrion, additionally, will scavenge anything animal or vegetable.
